F.A.W.C! – (The Food and Wine Classic) has to be one of the highlights in my calendar. I’ve been lucky enough to head down to the beautiful Hawke’s Bay for the last five years just for it – it’s such a blast that I have to keep returning.

Hawke’s Bay has an inspiring food and wine community, genuinely passionate people obsessed with food – from production in horticulture and agriculture to amazing wine production (hello, Gimblett Gravels!), through to chefs who hero the quality of the regions produce in their cooking. It is all a true credit to this province. All of this, set in a beautiful area all only a quick flight from Auckland and Wellington. What’s not to love?!

Twice a year, in June and November, the local cuisine community band together to create a multi-day festival of food and wine. The Winter F.A.W.C! programme runs over four consecutive weekends each June and features 60+ events, while Summer F.A.W.C! is a ten-day affair that packs in more than 70 events.

Each programme is incredibly diverse, typically featuring masterclasses, degustation, winemaker’s lunches, garden parties, picnics in the vines and progressive dinners. The best part is that each experience is designed to be unique – something that’s not available at any other of the time of year, which helps makes it feel very special.

The Winter F.A.W.C! 2018 programme has just been released and it’s packed with mouthwatering opportunities. A feature of this year’s programme is the diversity of the offerings, from modern to medieval, Spain to Switzerland, France to the Philippines, BBQ to fondue. There’s also a high calibre selection of wine tastings, as well as the truly exceptional opportunity to find and then feast on truffles… Yes, local Truffles!

F.A.W.C! takes in a wide range of Hawke’s Bay locations, which makes it the perfect way to explore the whole region and experience more of what it has – think the legendary Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Market, their superb network of cycle trails (which conveniently connect most of the region’s cellar doors!), all manner of artisan producers, and the simply stunning Te Mata Peak park.
