Edible Christmas Gifts
It’s getting close to that time of year again – Christmas shopping time! I’m not very good at Christmas shopping – I hate malls and I always struggle to think of what to get someone.
Personally, I think that the best gifts are the edible ones – they can be shared around with everyone, and there’s no risk of them being stored away and never used or collected as yet another piece of materialistic junk. However most of the time, edible gifts are unhealthy commercial chocolates or biscuits. It’s OK having one or two of these, but more than that and you start to feel unhealthy.
The good news is there are lots of cool edible gifts you can make that are delicious and healthy, so you can give the gift of good health! People just love it when you give them something you have made yourself – it means so much more when it’s been made with love, instead of just picked up from the supermarket shelf. Now, I know you’re thinking “but I don’t have time to make my own Christmas gifts!”…neither do I really, but these Christmas Snowballs (dairy, gluten and refined sugar-free) from my Sunday Star Times column are just soooo quick and easy. What’s more, you can make them in bulk, so you can make enough for lots of gifts all in one go. They are really cute packed in a little box tied up with ribbon.
My decadent Hazelnut Chocolate Truffles are also a real treat. Or if you have a bit more time up your sleeves, you could make my Gluten-Free Coconut, Honey and Banana Loaf (also dairy, gluten and refined sugar-free), wrap it up in a few sheets of baking paper and tie it up with string with a card attached (see photo above) – a simple idea, but people get the warm fuzzies when they receive it!
So this year, how about having a go at making some yummy treats for gifts. People will love you for it (and you can skip the crowds at the shopping malls!) Nadia x
To be doing what I am today is a dream come true. It all started when I was 12 years old. I was watching TV after school one day and Jamie Oliver was cooking up a storm on The Naked Chef.
